Unlocking Hidden Funding: Why Finding Building Incentives Matters for Transformative Projects
Unlocking Hidden Funding: Why Finding Building Incentives Matters for Transformative Projects
Great projects often don’t fail because of a lack of vision—they struggle because finding the right funding can be complicated.
One of my favorite parts of building Home Incentives Hub is learning directly from the people who will use the platform. Every conversation with building owners, developers, project managers, and industry experts provides valuable insight into the challenges they face when planning and executing projects.
Recently, I spoke with one of our early customers who has been helping shape Home Incentives Hub. During our conversation, he shared his experience working as a budget and project manager on a Richmond cultural initiative supported by an $11 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
His experience highlighted an important reality: transformative projects often depend on successfully navigating a complex landscape of funding opportunities.
The challenge isn’t always finding ideas—it’s finding the resources to bring them to life
Across the country, communities are investing in projects that preserve historic buildings, improve public spaces, increase energy efficiency, and strengthen local economies.
These projects may qualify for a wide range of support, including:
- Federal and state grants
- Historic preservation funding
- Energy efficiency incentives
- Utility rebate programs
- Tax credits
- Local government initiatives
- Sustainability and resilience programs
The challenge is that these opportunities are rarely located in one place. They are managed by different government agencies, utilities, foundations, and organizations, each with their own eligibility requirements, application processes, and deadlines.
For many project teams, discovering the right incentives requires significant time, specialized knowledge, and extensive research.
A better way to discover opportunities
This is the challenge we are working to solve at Home Incentives Hub.
Our mission is to make building incentives easier to find and access by using AI to help users identify programs that match their specific projects and properties.
Whether someone is renovating a historic building, improving energy performance, upgrading building systems, or planning a community development project, the right incentives can make a meaningful difference in what is possible.
By bringing together information from multiple sources and making it easier to discover relevant programs, Home Incentives Hub helps users spend less time searching and more time moving projects forward.
Lessons from the field
The Richmond project conversation reinforced something we see repeatedly: funding opportunities exist, but finding them can be one of the biggest barriers.
A building owner may not know that a utility rebate could help offset an energy upgrade. A developer may miss a tax credit that could improve project economics. A community organization may spend months searching for grants that align with their goals.
The opportunity is not just about finding money—it is about connecting the right resources with the right projects at the right time.
Building the future of incentive discovery
At Home Incentives Hub, we believe technology can help close the gap between available funding and the projects that need it most.
Every conversation with our customers helps us better understand real-world challenges and build a platform that addresses them.
We are grateful to the industry professionals, project leaders, and early users who are helping us shape the future of building incentive discovery.
Because when the right projects can find the right support, communities can preserve their history, improve their buildings, and create a stronger future.
